The Guy in the Glass

When you get what you want in your struggle for pelf,
And the world makes you King for a day,
Then go to the mirror and look at yourself,
And see what that guy has to say.

For it isn’t your Father, or Mother, or Wife,
Who judgement upon you must pass.
The feller whose verdict counts most in your life
Is the guy staring back from the glass.

He’s the feller to please, never mind all the rest,
For he’s with you clear up to the end,
And you’ve passed your most dangerous, difficult test
If the guy in the glass is your friend.

You may be like Jack Horner and “chisel” a plum,
And think you’re a wonderful guy,
But the man in the glass says you’re only a bum
If you can’t look him straight in the eye.

You can fool the whole world down the pathway of years,
And get pats on the back as you pass,
But your final reward will be heartaches and tears
If you’ve cheated the guy in the glass.

Ahoy!

This is more of a personal blog entry than anything.

Right now I have this killer headache, it starts in the back of my head where spine meets skull and just chews up my brain from there. I fell asleep when I got home after cross-country practice, which I went to after spending the day chasing freshman outside due to Great Hollow coming to help settle them in. Pretty drained, though I had fun.

I deactivated my facebook, and I’ve had two people go “Why?!?! What’s wrong?!” Nothing’s wrong, I just need some time away from it. Instead of asking me how I am or calling me, people just go and look up my facebook newsfeed. Then I don’t get the joy of talking to them, and then I do it when I want to know how they’re doing, and it just completely lacks any kind of communication. Not to mention I’ve been listening to a bunch of new music, and I figured that it would be less of a temptation to post lyrics continuously on my wall if I lack the ability to even log in.

I don’t believe I’ve posted it here, but Amber has cancer and my family’s pretty penniless due to chemotherapy wiping out all our funds. I raised about $52 through art commissions to help pay for it, but due to personal family reasons I stopped.

I’ve re-dedicated myself to attempting to learn guitar. I can now play a very bad version of Ode to Joy, and I’m going to bring my guitar to music practice tomorrow night, and buy some new strings for it, since these are more than dead.

Due to inspiration from my friend Eric and his mom, I’m going to be painting a lot more using physical mediums, and attempting to sell some of my art and advertise it in small businesses. Eric’s mom is an artist, and she says with the quality of my art I’d be able to get decent revenue if I opened up and advertised physically. She’s also inspired me to move away from just seeing the art I do as a painting what’s real kind of deal, and including things like nature in the materials I use to make art.

Lastly, I bought a SAAB, and will have it running as soon as I dish out $200 some odd dollars for some kind of belt it needs. And don’t even bother asking me what year, I have no idea. As soon as a family member re-tells me, I shall post it. :P Going to see about getting my permit in the near future as well, so I can get my 20 hours logged and take the test already.

Peace!

edit: Also want to add that today while outside with Great Hollow, two praying mantises decided to join us! One flew on to the person running our current activity, and the other onto me where it proceeded to crawl all over me for 15 minutes before flying away. It was amazing. :) (and yes, now I feel like one of those bug-nerds.)

Living art

I want to be living art, I want to showcase emotion, challenge you, make you watch after me to see if maybe there’s an answer in me if you look hard enough, all the while posing questions.
